India’s ISRO successfully conducted its Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) on Thursday, becoming the fourth country to achieve space docking. The mission, which took place at 9 a.m. IST, involved two ISRO satellites, Target and Chaser, docking, and undocking after complex maneuvers in orbit.
This achievement is crucial for satellite servicing, space station operations, and interplanetary missions, positioning India as a key player in the global $400 billion space market. The mission also demonstrated the transfer of electric power between spacecraft, vital for future space applications.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the success, calling it a significant step toward India’s ambitious space goals. With the global space market set to reach $1 trillion by 2030, India’s share is currently just 2%, but it aims to increase this to $44 billion by 2040.
