E-Waste in India Climbs 73% in Five Years

India has experienced a significant rise in electronic waste (e-waste) production over the last five years, with the figures growing from 1.01 million metric tonnes (MT) in 2019-20 to 1.751 million MT in 2023-24. This data was shared by Tokhan Sahu, Minister of State for the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, during a session in the Rajya Sabha.

The statistics reveal a worrying 72.54% increase in e-waste generation since 2019-20, underscoring the expanding use of electronic devices nationwide. The minister presented this information in response to inquiries regarding e-waste levels in urban regions over the past five years.
