Dense Fog Covers Delhi, IMD Issues Yellow Alert

Delhi Weather

Delhi experienced thick fog this morning, causing temperatures to drop to 7°C and disrupting train services. The reduced visibility delayed 18 trains arriving in the city. Despite this, air travel remained largely unaffected as airport authorities put low visibility protocols in place to ensure that flights continued without significant delays.

IMD Forecasts Continued Fog and Light Rain

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the capital, predicting moderate to dense fog throughout the day, especially in the morning and evening. In addition, light rain is expected in some areas, which could further reduce visibility and impact air quality across Delhi.

Air Quality Remains Poor Amid Pollution

The air pollution in Delhi is a persistent issue, as the AQI remains within the “Very poor” level. At 8 am, the AQI was recorded at 341 but is expected to improve slightly with favorable weather conditions.

Supreme Court Considers Stricter Restrictions

In response to the ongoing air pollution, the Supreme Court has instructed the Commission for Air Quality Management to implement more stringent measures if the AQI exceeds certain thresholds. Stage 3 restrictions will be triggered if the AQI surpasses 350, while Stage 4 restrictions will apply if it exceeds 400. These measures could involve suspending construction, limiting vehicle access, and shifting schools to online learning.

As the dense fog and poor air quality persist, authorities are closely monitoring the situation and advising residents to take steps to minimize their exposure to harmful conditions.
